The 200-some group is a mix of former members of area police departments, correctional officers and military veterans who transitioned into the private sector as well as younger officers who entered the field earlier in their careers. They undergo emergency training, including emergency medical procedures and defensive tactics. The officers are hourly workers who say they are paid less per hour than they were promised.

Presently many of the MGM Springfield casino employees have already sought unionization and are presently represented by other national and local unions based on a neutrality agreement.
When an employer signs a neutrality agreement it agrees to allow its employees to unionize without any interference from the company. Meaning it stays neutral and allows it’s employees to decide for themselves on whether or not to unionize.
Once the majority of employees signup to unionize the union then requests the employer to voluntarily recognize its employees right to join a union by requesting a card check which is verified by an independent party, thus bypassing an NLRB election.
While MGM Springfield has allowed most of its employees to unionize under a neutrality agreement the same cannot be said for casino security officers. In this case MGM has decided to fight and has refused to RESPECT its casino security officers rights to unionize. MGM has even gone to the extreme by hiring a third party Union-Busting consulting firm whose sole purpose is to defeat these casino security officers from forming a union.
In MGM Springfield’s attempt to gain 100% control again they have hired the Union-Busting consulting firm of GOVERNMENT RESOURCES CONSULTANTS OF AMERICA a Chicago based firm.
Based on the activity so far, this MGM Springfield Union-Busting campaign is expected to run between $500,000 to one Million dollars as more Union-Busting persuaders are appearing each day.
LEOSU Organizing Director Steve Maritas has noted, ironically MGM management has hired the best Union-Busting consulting firm in the business to represent managements interests, then they tell their employees they don’t need a union to represent their interests. This is Hypocrisy at its best.
While MGM pretends to have the casino security officers best interest at heart, the truth of the matter is, management is not concerned about workers’ rights but intern they are more concern with keeping 100% control of their business to do whatever they want, whenever they want, at all costs.
Martin Jay Levitt author of Confession of a union buster defines Union-Busting as a practice that is undertaken by an employer or their agents to prevent employees from joining a union or to disempower, subvert or destroy unions that already exist
Union busting is a field populated by bullies and built on deceit. A campaign against a union is an assault on individuals and a war on truth. As such, it is a war without honor. The only way to bust a union is to lie, distort, manipulate, threaten, and always, always attack. said Maritas
Union Busting is nothing more than psychological warfare.
Psychological warfare is defined as the planned use of propaganda and other psychological actions having the primary purpose of influencing the opinions, emotions, attitudes and behavior of hostile groups which are MGM union supporters in such a way as to support the achievement of national objectives which is the company.
MGM is known for its anti-union stance when it comes to security officers due to the fact that under the gaming commission rules and regulations, a casino cannot open if casino security officers should decide to call off sick or walk off the job. MGM knows this and fears this type of power.
Several MGM Casino security officers who wish to remain anonymous noted that the lack of trust, broken promises, the lack of job security and RESPECT had motivated them to seek union representation. They noted when they were hired the officers were promised $18 an hour after 90 days, but now only receive $16 an hour. MGM management outright lied to us. They broke their promises and our trust.

Union-busting is a practice that is undertaken by an employer or their agents to prevent employees from joining a labor union, or to disempower, subvert, or destroy unions that already exist.
When workers attempt to form or join a union management will hire a third party high priced union buster who are experts in union-busting tactics. Their whole goal is to defeat the workers from joining or forming a union. A typical union-buster will charge $3,000 per day. A typical campaign will cost between $50,000 to $100,000 for a small group and upwards of $500,000 or more for larger groups.

When employees try to organize a union for a better and more secure job, employers often fight back strong – in the form of union-busting. Union-busting is any action by management to prevent employees from exercising their right to organize. Union busting attorneys train supervisors on what to say to persuade workers to vote down a union. The “script” doesn’t change much. Whether you are a bus driver, a nurse, a tech, or a call center worker, employers will hire union busters who will train supervisors in this anti-union script, or “playbook.” In this Union-Busting Playbook, you can find out about common union-busting strategies.
