MEMPHIS, TN – Gunshots rang out when a security guard fired shots at a suspect trying to drive away from a Hickory Hill apartment. There were two security guards at the apartments when the incident happened. Neighbors said they saw the guards, then heard shots. One security guard was critically injured; the one who fired the shots was not injured.
“There were two security guards walking around then all of a sudden we heard some shooting,” witness Stormy Washington said.
Washington heard the gunshots early Thursday morning at the Bella Vista Apartments where she lives. She said two security guards were making their rounds at her complex before the chaos started.
“It was shocking because we had just talked to both security guards and they say we couldn’t stand out on the porch and stuff,” Washington said.
According to police, the guards saw a man sitting inside a car smoking marijuana. They went up to the car and one guard tried to get the man out of the vehicle, but the man drove off instead.
He crashed the car into several other cars and then ran away.
Somewhere in that process, police said one security guard opened fire. He defended his actions by saying he heard gunshots before he opened fire.
The man who crashed his car was found soon thereafter with a gunshot wound.

Two robbery suspects, including a 14-year-old boy, were shot and killed by a security guard outside a Beech Grove bar, Mayor Dennis Buckley said Saturday. The shooting happened at 1 a.m. in front of the The Grove Bar and Eatery, 3206 S. Emerson Ave. Police identified the man shot and killed during the robbery as Seth A. Easley above.
Two males, the 14-year-old and a 29-year-old, approached a car parked in front of the corner bar on Alton Street and demanded money of the two occupants, who were a mother-and-son security team employed by the bar.
The 14-year-old pointed a handgun at the guard on the driver’s side and demanded “give us everything you’ve got,” Buckley said. The guard, who was the son, replied, “We don’t have anything except a cellphone,” to which the teenager replied, “Give us that,” Buckley said.
Instead, the security guard fired several shots at the suspects, striking both.
One suspect collapsed next to the car; the other staggered 20 feet to the parking lot north of the entrance lot before falling, Buckley said.

Allied Universal Cabrini College Public Safety Director Joseph Fusco, was beaten up by Uber driver after he refused to drive him home after a holiday party 3 days before Christmas from University City, Philadelphia to New Jersey 30 minutes away, lawsuit alleges.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday, claims that Joseph Fusco, director of public safety at the security firm Allied Universal, requested an Uber ride from a holiday party near the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on Dec. 22, 2016, at about 11pm. When his Uber driver arrived, Fusco sat in the front seat and asked to be taken home to Cherry Hill, New Jersey, about 30 minutes away. The driver then told Fusco to “get out,” the lawsuit alleges, and said, “I am not driving to New Jersey.”
“The Uber Driver then dragged Plaintiff out of the front seat by his coat collar and severely beat Plaintiff, breaking multiples bones on his face, knocking out teeth, and leaving him in a pool of blood on the pavement (with his body partially in the street) in the freezing cold,” the lawsuit alleges. The driver also stomped on and kicked Fusco while he was already unconscious – something the lawsuit alleges is caught on surveillance video. Two bystanders eventually found Fusco, according to the complaint, and called 911.
The lawsuit contends that Uber refused to provide police with the driver’s full name and other identifying information, but Uber claims that the company has been cooperating with investigators and that the suspect is no longer driving for Uber. (University of Pennsylvania police confirm that their investigation is ongoing but decline to comment on the case or Uber’s level of cooperation in it.)
To add insult to injury—literally—Fusco claims that the driver charged him for a 28-minute ride into North Philadelphia. To date, he says, he hasn’t been refunded.

The man who killed five people in a shooting Friday at Florida’s Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport demonstrated “erratic behavior” in November that concerned FBI agents, who referred him for mental health treatment.
Esteban Santiago, 26, pulled a semiautomatic handgun from his checked luggage Friday in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2 and began firing at travelers until he ran out of ammunition, threw his gun down and laid spread-eagle on the ground, the Associated Press reported.
In November, Santiago walked into the FBI’s office in Anchorage and claimed his mind was being controlled by a U.S. intelligence agency and the CIA was forcing him to watch ISIS videos, federal law enforcement officials told NBC News.
Santiago was clear that he didn’t intend to harm anyone, but the FBI was concerned by his erratic behavior and called police and he was taken to a mental health facility for an evaluation, FBI Special Agent in Charge George Piro of the Miami division told reporters Friday night.

INDIANAPOLIS – Prosecutors have formally charged three teenagers in an abduction and assault investigation in Castleton late last month. Korey Reaves, 16, and 19-year-old Anthony Fort are facing rape and kidnapping charges, while 18-year-old Myia Kilgore is facing kidnapping and intimidation charges. It has been reported that the boys sexually assaulted a woman in a hotel room then also sexually assaulted a female security guard who went to check on the victim.

Security Screening – TSA has evolved from a one-size-fits-all security screening approach to a risk-based, intelligence-driven strategy designed to improve both security and the passenger experience. This approach permits us to provide expedited screening for trusted travelers and to focus on high-risk and unknown passengers at security checkpoints. TSA officers may use risk-based security measures to identify, mitigate and resolve potential threats at the airport security checkpoint. These officers may ask you questions about your travel to include identity, travel itinerary and property. TSA may use a variety of screening processes, including random screening, regardless of whether an alarm is triggered. In addition, TSA uses unpredictable security measures throughout the airport and no individual is guaranteed expedited screening.
Airports are busier than ever and this could impact your travel from curb to gate. TSA recommends arriving up to 2 hours ahead of departure for domestic travel and 3 hours ahead for international. Your security is our top priority.
What is a pat down airport security?
Frisking (also called a patdown or pat down) is a search of a person’s outer clothing wherein a person runs his or her hands along the outer garments to detect any concealed weapons.
What is the redress number for TSA?
The Redress Control Number is the record identifier for people who apply for redress through the DHS Travel Redress Inquiry Program (DHS TRIP). DHS TRIP is for travelers who have been repeatedly identified for additional screening and who want to file an inquiry to have erroneous information corrected in DHS systems

Sleeping while on duty or sleeping on the job refers to falling asleep while on the time clock or equivalent, or else while responsible for performing some active or passive job duty. While in some jobs, this is a minor transgression or not even worthy of sanctioning, in other workplaces, this is considered gross misconduct and may be grounds for disciplinary action, including possible termination of employment. Sleeping while on duty is such an important issue that it is addressed in the employee handbook in some workplaces. Here we take a look at security guards who have been caught sleeping on the job.
The frequency of sleeping while on duty that occurs varies depending on the time of day. Daytime employees are more likely to take short naps, while graveyard shift workers have a higher likelihood of sleeping for a large portion of their shift, sometimes intentionally. A survey by the National Sleep Foundation has found that 30% of participants have admitted to sleeping while on duty. More than 90% of Americans have experienced a problem at work because of a poor night’s sleep. One in four admit to shirking duties on the job for the same reason, either calling in sick or napping during work hours.

The photo was allegedly captured on the cell phone camera of another guard. Both guards were disciplined for this action, the sleeping guard for sleeping and the guard who took the photo for violating a prison policy forbidding cell phones while on duty. The inmate was not identified.
