A Universal Protection Services security guard at Pittsburgh’s fancy Ross Park Mall was fired this week after bringing a gun to work, fooling around with it in the security office, and accidentally shooting a colleague in the buttocks.
PITTSBURGH —A Ross Park Mall security guard has been fired after he accidentally shot a friend in the buttocks after the mall was closed Tuesday night, police said.
The shooting happened at about 11 p.m. in the mall security office, as the guard was getting ready to go home for the night, police said.
“He was loading his personal weapon when he accidentally discharged the firearm,” Ross Township police Detective Brian Kohlhepp said. “The fired projectile went through a wooden stand and struck another person in the buttocks.”
The victim was treated at a hospital and has been released, police said.
The guard worked for Universal Protection Services, police said. He has not been identified.
Police said they do not expect to file any charges.
Kohlhepp. “I was told he was in good spirits about the whole event.” The guard’s name has not been released, but he was employed by Universal Protection Services, not Ross Park Mall. He has since been relieved of his duties as a security guard at the mall.

Luxury watch and jewelry house Chopard — which regularly lends its pieces to the rich and famous for the Grammy’s, Academy Awards and Golden Globes — hired Ferrari Express to secure the 53 pieces of jewelry.

TAMPA, FL –Everoy Farqnarson a security guard working for a private security firm, Iron Eagle Security, was arrested after getting into a fight and firing his weapon in the Ybor City parking garage at 210 N 13th St, Tampa, FL 33605 early Sunday morning.
It happened at the parking facility located at 2010 13th Street North about 3 a.m. Sunday. According to Tampa Police, 31-year-old Everoy Farqharson, a security guard working for a private security firm, confronted the victims about urinating in the garage. He boxed in their car with his cart, preventing them from leaving.
During the confrontation, Farqharson pushed one of the victims and then knocked the phone from the hands of the second victim who was recording the argument on video.
According to police, the guard fired his weapon and the victims fled. At least four shots can be heard on the video of the incident.

FORT PIERCE — Treasure Coast judges fear for their safety in the wake of the Orlando shooting rampage by G4S security guard Omar Mateen, who did stints guarding the county courthouses in St. Lucie and Indian River, St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara said Friday. The judges want sheriff’s deputies to handle all security at the St. Lucie courthouses, as they do in Martin County, Mascara said after meeting with Chief Judge Elizabeth Metzger Monday. Deputies currently are stationed in St. Lucie and Indian River courtrooms while G4S security guards are stationed at the metal detectors at the entrances to the court buildings.

Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old security guard from Fort Pierce, had been on the FBI’s radar since at least 2013, when acquaintances — at least one of them a former law enforcement officer — warned authorities that he was prone to violence, made unspecified threats and seemed to have radical Islamic ideas.

The judges want sheriff’s deputies to handle all security at the St. Lucie courthouses, as they do in Martin County, Mascara said after meeting with Chief Judge Elizabeth Metzger Monday. Deputies currently are stationed in St. Lucie and Indian River courtrooms while G4S security guards are stationed at the metal detectors at the entrances to the court buildings.
Mascara and Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar said they are satisfied with G4S’ service and employees, but will consider replacing the private security guards with deputies. There are eight or nine G4S guards in the Fort Pierce and St. Lucie West courthouses, and two in Vero Beach, both of whom have worked there for a decade.
Loar said Metzger hasn’t raised any issues with the G4S security guards at the Indian River County Courthouse and it was unclear how she feels about security there.
Replacing G4S with deputies would cost St. Lucie $200,000 more and Indian River $60,000 more than the respective $377,000 and $86,000 the sheriffs are paying G4S this year.
Loar said his staff had considered replacing G4S with deputies three months before Mateen’s shooting spree — but didn’t specify why — and are more likely to do so now.
